Japan's Trade Minister, Yoji Muto, stated on Thursday that all response options are under consideration following President Trump's recent imposition of tariffs. Describing the move as "extremely regrettable," Muto reaffirmed Japan's appeal for an exemption during discussions with U.S. representatives. He underlined the importance of a measured yet decisive reaction and announced the formation of a task force dedicated to evaluating the effects of the 24% tariff on Japanese exports. Additionally, the previously planned 25% tariff on automobile imports is set to be implemented as intended, posing a significant challenge to Japan's automotive sector. Tokyo has also conveyed "serious concerns" regarding the compatibility of these tariffs with World Trade Organization regulations.
