Georgia Inflation Rate Hits 2- Year High

The annual inflation rate in Georgia surged to 5.4% in March 2025, up from 2.4% in February. This is the highest level recorded since March 2023, with a notable increase in prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages, which jumped to 6.6% from 3.7% in February. There was also significant growth in the costs of clothing and footwear, which moved to 1.5% from a previous 0%, and health-related expenses, which rose to 8.8% from 5.4%.

Conversely, the costs for furnishings, household equipment, and maintenance remain unchanged, registering a decrease of 2.1%. Meanwhile, there was a decrease in inflation for alcoholic beverages and tobacco, which edged down to 4.2% from 4.7%, as well as for miscellaneous goods and services, which eased to 6.3% from 7.6%, and education, which decreased to 4.9% from 5.2%. Additionally, prices in the transport sector fell by 0.5% as compared to a previous 0.4% increase, while the decline in communication prices deepened slightly to -12.4% from -12.2%. On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices increased by 1.1% in March 2025, following a 0.4% increase in February.
