Retail sales in Romania experienced a 3.3% increase year-on-year in February 2025, decelerating from a revised 4.1% growth observed in the previous month. This represents the slowest growth rate since December 2023, attributed to smaller rises in the sales of non-food products, which increased by 5.9% compared to 6.7% in January, and in automotive fuel sales, which rose by 0.3% compared to 3.4%. Meanwhile, the decline in sales of food, beverages, and tobacco persisted, albeit at a slightly reduced rate of -0.4% compared to -0.6%. On a month-to-month basis, retail sales fell by 1% in February, overturning the revised 0.9% increase recorded in January.
