Eurozone Retail Sales Rebound Less than Expected

In February 2025, retail trade in the Eurozone experienced a modest increase of 0.3% compared to the previous month, breaking a streak of three months with no growth. This rise, however, did not meet the market's anticipated growth of 0.5%. The sales of non-food products saw a recovery, increasing by 0.3% following a 0.2% drop in January. Similarly, sales of food, beverages, and tobacco went up by 0.3%, though this was a slowdown from a 0.5% rise in the prior month. Meanwhile, fuel sales showed a slight uptick of 0.2% after being stagnant in January. Analyzing the performance across major economies in the bloc, retail sales saw improvements in Spain (1.3%), Germany (0.7%), and France (0.2%), but recorded declines in Italy (-0.1%) and the Netherlands (-1.4%).
