Baltic Dry Index Slips Further to 1-Month Low

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk sea freight index, which monitors the shipping rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, continued its decline for the tenth consecutive session on Monday. It fell to 1,401 points, marking its lowest level since March 7, as concerns regarding a tariff-triggered global recession intensified. The capesize index, responsible for carrying large cargoes such as iron ore and coal totaling 150,000 tons, dropped significantly by 9.1%, hitting a more than one-month low at 2,017 points. Meanwhile, the panamax index, which tracks ships carrying 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, continued its downward trend for the fifth straight day, decreasing by 4.8% to 1,356 points. The supramax index, measuring smaller vessels, also fell by 6 points, reaching its lowest since March 17 at 965 points.
