In February 2025, household spending in Sweden saw a 1.1% increase from the previous month, recovering from the 0.2% decline recorded in January. This rebound was notably driven by a resurgence in recreation and culture, as well as goods and services, which experienced a rise of 4.0% compared to a drop of 2.7% in January. The clothing and footwear sector also saw improvement, increasing by 0.8% following a significant 4.4% decrease, while other goods and services climbed by 1.8% after a 1.7% fall. Additionally, spending on restaurants, cafes, hotels, and communication services rose by 0.7%, reversing the previous month's 0.8% decline.
There was a notable acceleration in expenditure for post and communication services, which surged to 3.0% from 0.3%, alongside a modest increase in spending on food and beverages, which improved to 0.3% from stagnation. Contrarily, spending on transport, retail sales, and motor vehicle services decreased by 0.6%, following a substantial 11.8% increase in January. Spending growth slowed in sectors like housing, electricity, gas, and heating, which saw a reduced rise to 0.5% from 0.9%, and in furniture, furnishings, household equipment, and consumables, which decelerated to 0.5% from 0.7%. Year-over-year, household expenditure grew by 2.3% in February, building on the 0.7% uptick observed the previous month.
