In February 2025, Sweden experienced a 0.7% decline in industrial production compared to the same month the previous year. This marks an improvement from the revised 2.0% decrease seen in January. The less pronounced drop can be attributed to a softer reduction in manufacturing output, which narrowed to a 0.7% contraction from January's 2.9%, and a smaller decline in electricity, gas, steam, and hot water production, which fell by 3.5% compared to a 5.0% fall in the previous month. Meanwhile, growth in the mining and quarrying sector slowed, with output increasing by 2.0%, a significant drop from the 21.9% growth observed in January. On a more positive note, when adjusted for seasonal variations, industrial production rose by 0.4% in February. This follows a revised, larger 8.3% decrease from the previous period.
