Argentina Inflation Rises Above Estimates to 3.7% MoM

In March 2025, consumer prices in Argentina experienced a month-on-month rise of 3.7%, a significant increase from February’s 2.4% and surpassing market forecasts, which anticipated a 2.6% uptick. Notable price hikes were observed in several sectors, including education, which surged by 21.6% compared to a modest 0.5% in February. Transportation costs grew by 1.7%, up from the previous 1.2%, while prices in the food and non-alcoholic beverages sector increased by 5.9%, significantly higher than the 1.8% rise recorded earlier. Communication costs also rose to 2.5% from 2.3%. Meanwhile, the clothing and footwear sector, which experienced a deflationary phase with a drop of 0.7% in February, rebounded to a 4.6% increase. On the other hand, the rate of price increases slowed in the health sector (down to 1.8% from 2.4%), as well as in restaurants and hotels, which decreased to 3.9% from 5.3%, and in housing and utilities, which saw a reduction from 4.0% to 2.9%. On an annual basis, consumer prices eased to a 55.9% increase in March, marking the tenth consecutive month of decreasing inflation and representing the smallest annual increase since March 2022. This figure is a decline from February’s 66.9% but slightly above the predicted 54.2%.
