Austria Inflation Rate Confirmed at 2.9%

In March 2025, Austria experienced a reduction in its annual inflation rate to 2.9%, down from 3.2% in February, aligning with preliminary forecasts and nearing the European Central Bank's 2% stability objective. This deceleration in price increases was notably observed in sectors such as clothing and footwear, which saw a mere 0.2% rise compared to 1.8% in February, and recreational and cultural activities, where inflation dropped to 2% from 3.3%. The hospitality sector, comprising restaurants and hotels, also experienced a slowdown, with growth rates decreasing to 5.8% from 6%. Additionally, a decline in prices was recorded for furnishings, household equipment, and maintenance, which fell by 0.9% compared to a 0.7% reduction previously, as well as in the transport sector, which saw an 0.8% decrease following a 0.8% increase the month before. Contrarily, inflation pressures escalated in the areas of food and non-alcoholic beverages, rising to 3.1% from 2.6%, and for alcoholic drinks and tobacco, which jumped to 3.7% from 1.4%. In comparison to the previous month, consumer prices ascended by 0.2% in March, a slowdown from the 0.6% increase observed in the earlier period.
