Mauritius Trade Gap Narrows Slightly

In February 2025, Mauritius experienced a slight decrease in its trade deficit, which fell to MUR 14.1 billion from MUR 14.3 billion recorded in the same month the previous year. On an annual basis, exports saw a decline of 9.2%, amounting to MUR 7.9 billion. This drop was primarily attributed to a significant reduction in the shipment of various categories, including Food and Live Animals, which saw a decrease of 23.34%, Miscellaneous Manufactured Articles down by 21.15%, and Manufactured Goods Classified Chiefly by Material, which fell by 24.35%. Concurrently, imports experienced a reduction of 4.4%, totaling MUR 22 billion. This decline was largely due to diminished procurement of Machinery and Transport Equipment, which decreased by 19.9%, Food and Live Animals down by 14.7%, and Manufactured Goods Classified Chiefly by Material, which saw a reduction of 17%.
