In March 2025, Sweden's trade surplus significantly expanded, reaching SEK 12.8 billion—more than double the SEK 6.2 billion recorded in March of the previous year. This boost was primarily fueled by an 11% growth in sales to countries outside the European Union, while exports to EU countries saw a slight decline of 0.5%. On the import side, there was a more modest increase of 1.3%, with total imports amounting to SEK 174.1 billion. This included a 0.6% reduction in imports from EU nations, contrasted by a 5.3% rise in imports from non-EU countries. After seasonal adjustments, the trade surplus improved to SEK 8.5 billion, up from SEK 7.5 billion the previous month. Looking at the broader first quarter, from January to March, the trade surplus rose to SEK 42 billion, a noteworthy improvement from SEK 30 billion during the same timeframe in the preceding year.
