Spain GDP Grows the Least in 7 Quarters

In the first quarter of 2025, the Spanish economy registered a 0.6% growth on a quarterly basis, marking the slowest expansion in seven quarters. This performance follows a revised increase of 0.7% in the previous quarter and fell slightly short of market forecasts, which anticipated a 0.7% rise, as indicated by preliminary data. Domestic demand was responsible for a 0.4 percentage point contribution, while external demand contributed 0.2 percentage points. Household consumption saw an uptick of 0.4%, with public expenditure rising by 0.2%. Investment saw a boost of 0.6%. Exports climbed by 1%, whereas imports experienced a decline of 0.7%. All principal sectors posted positive growth. The industrial sector expanded by 1.1%, with manufacturing gaining momentum at 0.8%. The construction sector grew by 0.4%, and the services sector advanced by 0.3%. Meanwhile, primary industries surged by 7.1%, a significant rebound from a 0.7% decline observed in the prior quarter. On an annual basis, the GDP grew by 2.8%, the lowest rate recorded in a year.
