In the first quarter of 2025, Chile's unemployment rate remained stable at 8.7%, consistent with the same period last year, and slightly surpassing market projections of 8.6%. This stability was due to a 0.9% increase in the labor force, which matched the rise in the number of employed individuals. Significant job growth was noted in the finance sector (19.5%), lodging and catering services (7.5%), and professional activities (8.4%). The number of unemployed individuals increased by 1.3%, primarily due to a 1.2% rise in layoffs and a 1.4% increase in those seeking employment for the first time. For women, the unemployment rate remained steady at 9.5%, with labor force growth (1.2%) nearly mirroring the increase in employment (1.3%). Among men, the unemployment rate experienced a slight uptick to 8.1% (an increase of 0.1 percentage point), as labor force growth (0.7%) exceeded the rise in employment (0.5%).
