Australia Monthly CPI Unchanged at 2.4%

In March 2025, Australia's Consumer Price Index (CPI) held steady at 2.4%, maintaining the lowest rate since November 2024, unchanged from February. There were modest price increases in food and non-alcoholic beverages, which rose by 3.2% compared to 3.1% in February, primarily due to higher costs in meat, seafood, fruits, and vegetables. Additionally, slight upticks were observed in housing, rising to 2% from 1.8%; health, increasing to 4.1% from 4%; recreation and culture, climbing to 1.7% from 1.4%; and education, inching up to 5.7% from 5.6%. On the flip side, the deflation in the transport sector deepened marginally, with prices declining by 1.0% from a 0.9% reduction, attributed to decreases in automotive fuel, motor vehicles, and urban transport fares. The alcohol and tobacco sector saw a slight drop from 6.7% to 6.5%, and clothing and footwear prices reduced from 1.8% to 1.7%. Meanwhile, annual trimmed mean inflation slightly rose to 2.9%, up from February's 2.7%.
