As of May 1st, the average interest rate for a 30-year fixed mortgage, supported by Freddie Mac, decreased to 6.76%, a slight drop from the 6.81% reported the prior week. According to Sam Khater, Freddie Mac's Chief Economist, "This week, mortgage rates experienced another decline. Recently, rates for the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage have dipped below the first-quarter average of 6.83%."
