Building consents for new dwellings in New Zealand surged by 9.6% in March 2025 compared to the previous month, bringing the seasonally adjusted total to 3,398 units. This represents the most significant monthly increase since July 2024. However, for the year ending March 2025, the total number of new dwelling consents fell by 3.3% to 34,062 units compared to the prior year. Meanwhile, the annual value of non-residential building consents decreased by 7.2%, totaling $8.9 billion for the year ending March 2024. In the first quarter of 2025, the seasonally adjusted number of new homes consented rose by 3.3%, following a 3.3% decline in the December 2024 quarter.
