Colombia Factory Sector Grows Again

The Davivienda Colombia Manufacturing PMI climbed to 51.4 in April 2025, up from 49.9 in March, marking the first growth in Colombia's manufacturing sector since January. While there was a modest expansion in new orders and manufacturing, limited demand coupled with inflation concerns and global trade issues restrained a more robust recovery. Purchasing activity experienced a slight uptick, yet job creation remained minimal as companies chose not to replace outgoing employees. On the pricing front, overall cost pressures continued their ascent due to unfavorable exchange rates and material shortages, although the rate of increase showed some deceleration. Nevertheless, selling price inflation soared to a two-year peak, still remaining below the historical 14-year average. Looking forward, businesses retained confidence in production growth, driven by prospects of economic improvement, increased demand, and new product offerings, despite optimism hitting its lowest point in seven months.
