Indonesia witnessed a decline in its unemployment rate, reaching 4.76% in the first quarter of 2025, down from 4.82% in the equivalent period of the previous year. This represents the lowest unemployment rate recorded since at least the fourth quarter of 1997. Despite a 1.11% increase in the number of unemployed individuals, bringing the total to 7.28 million, employment numbers rose by 2.52%, amounting to 145.77 million. Significant employment growth was observed in the sectors of wholesale and retail trade, as well as in the repair and maintenance of cars and motorcycles. Moreover, the labor force participation rate climbed to 70.60%, up from 69.80% the previous year. It's important to note that Indonesia publishes its unemployment figures biannually, specifically in the first and third quarters.
