Senegal Consumer Prices Fall for 2nd Month

In April 2025, consumer prices in Senegal experienced a 0.2% year-on-year decrease, consistent with the previous month's figures. This represents the second month in a row of declining consumer prices, largely attributed to reduced costs in food and non-alcoholic beverages (declining by 0.9%, compared to a 1.2% decline in March) and in information and communication goods and services (falling by 8.1%, down from 8.8%). These reductions were somewhat counterbalanced by price hikes in other sectors, most notably in restaurants and accommodation services (rising by 1.6%, slightly down from 1.7%), furniture, household equipment, and routine maintenance (increasing by 1.7%, down from 2.3%), housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels (up by 0.9%, compared to 0.6%), and healthcare (up by 1.6%, compared to 1.2%). When energy and fresh products are excluded, the core index observed a 1.8% year-on-year increase, following a 2.1% rise in March. On a month-to-month basis, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) fell by 0.5%, which matched the rate recorded in March, continuing a three-month streak of monthly declines.
