The latest data reveals an uptick in Costa Rica's unemployment rate, climbing to 7.5% in the first quarter of 2025 compared to 6.9% in the preceding quarter. This period saw a modest increase of 13,990 in the number of unemployed individuals, bringing the total to 178,000. Concurrently, the employment rate experienced a slight decline, dropping from 52.8% to 52.2%, resulting from the workforce reducing by roughly 20,000 to a total of 2.21 million. Additionally, there was a slight decrease in the labor force participation rate, which moved down from 56.7% to 56.4%.
