Dutch Household Spending Growth Eases

In March 2025, household consumption in the Netherlands experienced a year-on-year growth of 0.9%, a slowdown from the 2.2% rise recorded in February. This deceleration can be attributed primarily to a tempered increase in the consumption of goods, which rose by 1.1% compared to the 4.4% increase in February. Similarly, the consumption of durable consumer goods grew by 1.3%, down from 4.0%, and spending on other goods stagnated at 0.0%, a marked decline from the previous 10.1%, notably in sectors like energy and motor fuels. On the other hand, expenditure on food, beverages, and tobacco increased to 1.8% from 1.5%, and spending on services rose to 0.8% from 0.5%, primarily fueled by higher spending on transport and communication services. Notably, services constitute more than half of the overall household consumption.
