Turkey Current Account Widens Slightly in March

Turkey's current account deficit experienced a slight increase, rising to $4.12 billion in March 2025 from $4.09 billion in March of the previous year, surpassing market predictions of a $3.95 billion deficit. The shortfall in the goods account saw an increase from $5.04 billion in March 2024 to $4.84 billion, and the primary income deficit also grew, reaching $1.9 billion from $1.63 billion. Meanwhile, the surplus in the services account decreased to $2.67 billion, down from $2.75 billion the previous year. Conversely, the secondary income deficit significantly narrowed to $0.02 billion from $0.21 billion. Over the first quarter of the year, Turkey registered a current account deficit of $12.3 billion, which is notably higher than the $9.7 billion deficit recorded during the same timeframe last year.
