Montenegro Inflation Rate at 9-Month High

In April 2025, Montenegro experienced an uptick in the annual inflation rate, which climbed to 3.4%, up from 2.6% in March. This represents the highest inflation level since July 2024. Contributing factors to this increase were notable price hikes in several sectors: food and non-alcoholic beverages rose significantly (2.8% compared to 1% in March), while housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels saw an increase (5.9% from 5.5%). Additionally, health sector prices surged (13.2% from 10%), alongside those in restaurants and hotels (9.5% from 8.6%), recreation and culture (6.7% from 6.3%), and furnishings, household equipment, and routine maintenance (5.3% from 3.5%). Conversely, prices remained stable for communication (1.8%) and education (0.9%). Deflation, however, intensified in transport (-2.5% from -0.7%) and clothing and footwear sectors (-1.4% from -0.8%). On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices rose by 0.8% in April, compared to a 0.3% increase in March.
