In March 2025, Romania witnessed a significant decline in industrial production, which fell by 7.6% year-on-year, worsening from the 3.2% decrease observed in February. This is the second month in a row where industrial activity has diminished, marking the steepest drop since June 2020. The downturn was largely driven by a further drop in manufacturing output, which decreased by 9.3% compared to a 3.7% fall in the previous month. Additionally, there was a reduction in production for electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply, which fell by 1.9%, following a 2.5% increase earlier. Conversely, the mining and quarrying sector saw a modest recovery, growing by 0.8% after experiencing a 6.3% contraction. On a month-by-month analysis, industrial output dipped by 0.5% in March, after a 2.1% drop in the prior period.
