In April 2025, Albania experienced a widening trade deficit, reaching ALL 43 billion up from ALL 41 billion in April of the previous year. Exports saw a year-on-year decline of 4.1% to ALL 33 billion, primarily due to decreased sales in construction materials and metals (-6.1%), textiles and footwear (-1.3%), and chemical and plastic products (-0.8%). Among Albania's trading partners, the most significant declines in exports were with China (-32.8%), Spain (-27.1%), and Italy (-7.7%). Conversely, imports rose by 0.4% to ALL 76 billion, largely driven by increased purchases of chemical and plastic products (+0.5%) and paper and wood products (+0.5%). The most considerable growth in imports was observed from China (11.1%) and North Macedonia (18.9%). For the period spanning January through April 2025, the trade deficit totaled ALL 144 billion, with exports rising by 2.3% year-on-year, while imports decreased by 2.5%.
