In the first quarter of 2025, Latvia's unemployment rate climbed to 7.4%, increasing from the previous quarter's 6.9%, marking the highest rate recorded since the second quarter of 2021. The number of unemployed individuals grew by 8.9%, reaching 69,500, while the employed population saw a marginal increase of 0.1%, bringing the total to 868,000. Unemployment among women witnessed a sharp rise of 17%, whereas the rate for men increased by 3.3%. However, the proportion of long-term unemployed individuals, those without work for 12 months or more, decreased to 33.6% from 38.7%. Meanwhile, 31.7% of people aged 15 to 74 were economically inactive in the first quarter of 2025, a slight decrease from 32.0% in the preceding quarter.
