In March 2025, the value of building plans approved in South Africa decreased by 6.7% compared to the same month the previous year, amounting to ZAR 7,292.4 million. This followed a revised decline of 8.4% in February. Approvals for non-residential buildings experienced a significant drop of 17.3%, largely due to a 21% decrease in shopping space and a dramatic 46.5% reduction in other non-residential structures. During the same period, permits for additions and alterations fell by 8%, and residential building approvals saw a slight decrease of 0.7%.
