Poland Retail Sales Growth Hits 3-Year High

Retail sales in Poland experienced a significant rise of 7.6% year-over-year in April 2025, representing the most robust expansion since May 2022, and recovering from a 0.3% decrease in March. This noteworthy turnaround was largely attributed to a 14.9% boost in motor vehicle sales, albeit slightly lower than the 18.4% observed in March, as well as a marked improvement in the sales of food, beverages, and tobacco, which increased by 9.7%, recovering from a 9.4% drop in the previous month. Additional momentum was supported by notable growth within key sectors: pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and orthopaedic equipment saw a 7.5% rise compared to 5.0% previously; textiles, clothing, and footwear increased by 8.4% up from 6.7%; furniture, electronics, and household appliances surged 13.2% over 12.9%; newspapers, books, and other specialized store sales climbed 3.9% from 1.0%; and the category encompassing solid, liquid, and gaseous fuels grew by 1.6%, reversing a prior decline of 0.1%. On a monthly scale, retail trade experienced a striking 6.2% increase in April, marking the most substantial month-on-month gain since May 2020, and effectively bouncing back from a 0.6% downturn in March.
