Peter Navarro, the trade adviser for the White House, announced on Thursday that the Trump administration intends to pursue alternative avenues to implement tariffs if faced with unfavorable outcomes in the current legal challenges regarding trade policy. This statement came after a federal trade court ruled against President Trump’s imposition of broad tariffs under emergency legislation, highlighting that he exceeded his authority and relied excessively on personal judgment. Navarro mentioned that existing tariffs are still active due to a temporary suspension of the court's decision, permitting them to remain effective during the ongoing legal proceedings. Additionally, he mentioned that trade negotiations with several countries are still in progress. In a separate statement, economic adviser Kevin Hassett anticipated that certain trade agreements might be concluded within the next week or two. He revealed he had been briefed on three prospective deals nearing completion, although he did not specify the countries involved.
