In April 2025, Portugal's unemployment rate saw a decline to 6.3%, marking the lowest level in a year, down from 6.5% in each of the preceding two months. The number of unemployed individuals dropped by 4,100, bringing the total to 349,100, while the employed population saw an increase of 33,400, reaching 5.216 million. Consequently, the employment rate climbed to 65.1% in April, compared to 64.7% in March. Additionally, the labor force participation rate experienced a rise from 69.1% to 69.4%. During the same period, the labor underutilization rate—which includes unemployed individuals, underemployed part-time workers, inactive persons who are seeking employment but are unavailable, as well as those who are available but not actively job-seeking—slightly decreased to 10.6% from the previous 10.8% in March.
