In May 2025, the annual inflation rate in the Netherlands decreased to 3.3%, down from 4.1% in April, reaching its lowest point since January of the same year. The most significant factor contributing to this decline was a reduction in services inflation, which fell to 3.8% from April's 5.6%. Slight moderation was also observed in the inflation of food, beverages, and tobacco, which adjusted to 7.1% from 7.2%. Energy costs, including motor fuels, continued their downward trend, albeit at a slower rate, with a decrease of 1% compared to a 3.2% drop. Conversely, there was an uptick in the price growth of industrial goods, excluding energy and motor fuels, which rose to 1.8% from 1.6%. On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices are anticipated to decline by 0.5%, following a 1% increase observed in April. Regarding the harmonized consumer prices—used for comparisons within the European Union—a year-on-year rise of 3% is expected, down from the previous 4.1% increase.
