Retail sales in the Czech Republic experienced a notable increase of 5.8% year-on-year in April 2025, surpassing market predictions of a 3.2% uptick and building on a revised 3.9% growth observed in the prior month. This represents the most substantial growth since December 2024, primarily spurred by heightened sales in automotive fuel, which surged by 12.3% compared to 9.6% in March, and in food, beverages, and tobacco, which saw a rise of 3.7% against a previous decline of 0.5%. Additionally, sales of non-food products remained strong, growing by 5.7%, though this reflected a slight deceleration from the 6.1% growth seen earlier. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail activity increased by 1.2% in April, marking the sharpest rise in four months, following a revised gain of 0.8% in the preceding period.
