In April 2025, retail sales in Bulgaria experienced a 2.4% increase compared to the same month the previous year, reflecting a deceleration from the 5.4% growth observed in March. This slowdown was attributed to reduced growth in the sales of food, beverages, and tobacco, which rose only 0.1% compared to 0.5% in the prior month, as well as in the non-food products category, including fuel, which saw a 4% increase versus March's 8.3%. Specifically within the non-food sector, there was a marked decrease in sales growth for textiles, clothing, and footwear, which climbed by 6.3% in contrast to the previous month's 10.3%, and for audio and video equipment, which increased by 6.7% compared to 10.7%. Conversely, there was a decline in trade for computers, peripheral units, and software, which dropped by 4.2% following an 11.6% rise in March. On a month-to-month basis, retail sales grew by 0.6%, down from the 1.4% increase seen in March after revisions.
