In May 2025, Bangladesh witnessed a decrease in its annual inflation rate to 9.05%, down from 9.17% in April. This represents the lowest rate recorded since February 2023, as price increases began to stabilize across the majority of sub-indices. Specifically, notable moderation was seen in food and non-alcoholic beverages (8.59% compared to 8.63% in April), housing and utilities (7.45% compared to 7.85%), and transportation (6.64% compared to 6.84%). Furthermore, there was a slowdown in price increases for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (21.48% compared to 22.33%), healthcare (4.78% compared to 4.81%), communication (7.79% compared to 9.67%), recreation and culture (7.78% compared to 7.89%), education (8.22% compared to 9.17%), and dining and accommodation services (10.99% compared to 12.03%). Conversely, a sharper rise in costs was observed in clothing and footwear (15.35% compared to 14.75%), furnishings, household equipment, and maintenance (8.76% compared to 8.41%), as well as various goods and services (13.84% compared to 12.48%). On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices experienced a decline of 0.32% in May 2025, reversing the 0.39% increase observed in the previous month.
