In April 2025, Slovakia experienced a trade deficit of EUR 0.3 million, marking a notable change from the previous year's surplus of EUR 384.1 million in the same month. This shift occurred as exports declined, while imports grew. Specifically, exports decreased by 0.3% year-on-year, totaling EUR 8,966.2 million, largely impacted by a 2% reduction in machinery and transport equipment sales. Exports to EU nations saw a decrease of over 1%, whereas those to non-EU countries increased by more than 4%. On the other hand, imports rose by 4.2% to EUR 8,966.4 million, with growth observed in 9 out of 10 product categories, particularly driven by a 15.5% increase in miscellaneous industrial product imports. Imports from EU countries experienced an uptick of more than 1%, while those from non-EU nations surged by 10%. Over the first four months of the year, Slovakia's trade surplus significantly contracted to EUR 299.9 million from EUR 2,065.2 million during the same period the previous year.
