In May 2025, Taiwan's exports surged by 38.6% compared to the previous year, reaching an unprecedented high of USD 51.74 billion. This impressive growth follows an already notable increase of 29.9% in April. The latest figures represent the strongest annual rise in export activity since July 2010. This surge was primarily fueled by a remarkable 111.1% increase in shipments of information, communication, and audiovisual products. Significant contributions also came from electronic components, which grew by 28.4%, machinery by 7.7%, and base metals and articles of base metal by 5.7%. However, there was a decline in shipments of plastics and rubber articles, which decreased by 4.7%. Examining exports to key trading partners, there was a substantial rise to the USA (87.4%), followed by ASEAN countries (52.3%), Japan (17.5%), and Mainland China & Hong Kong (16.6%). From January to May, the total exports amounted to USD 229.96 billion, marking a 24.3% increase from the same period last year.
