Dutch Manufacturing Output Falls 1% in April

In April 2025, manufacturing output in the Netherlands saw a month-over-month decline of 1%, a noticeable shift following the revised 0.5% increase recorded in March. This decrease marked not only the first contraction of the year but also the sharpest decline witnessed thus far. The downturn was chiefly attributed to reductions in various sectors: beverages experienced a 6.7% decrease compared to 0% growth in March, clothing fell by 1.1% versus a previous rise of 3.4%, petroleum products dropped by 6.9% from 17.7%, and chemicals were down by 4.5% from 2.1%. Furthermore, significant downturns were noted in pharmaceuticals, which plunged 26.9% compared to a former rise of 16.8%, electrical equipment decreased by 2.9% from an earlier gain of 4.6%, furniture fell by 2.8%, following a 0.4% increase, and the repair and installation of machinery saw a decline of 2.3%, succeeding a previous drop of 1.8%. When viewed annually, manufacturing production receded by 0.5%, overturning the 1.4% growth observed in the prior period.
