According to the latest figures from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), vehicle sales in China experienced a significant increase of 11.2% year-on-year, reaching 2.686 million units in May 2025. This follows a 9.8% growth in April. Notably, sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) surged by 36.9% in May, totaling 1.307 million units, marking the third consecutive month of growth. NEVs represented 48.7% of the total vehicle sales for the month. Examining the data for the first five months of 2025, overall car sales climbed by 10.9%, amounting to 12.75 million units, while NEV sales skyrocketed by 44% to reach 5.61 million units. NEVs made up 44% of the total car sales during this period. Month-over-month, car sales in May increased by 3.7%, rebounding from an 11.2% decline in April. Projections for 2025 suggest that car sales will rise by 4.7%, reaching 32.9 million units, with NEV sales anticipated to grow by 24.4%, totaling 16 million units. In the previous year, total vehicle sales grew by 4.5% to 31.436 million units, a noticeable decrease from a 12% growth spurt in 2023.
