Slovakia Inflation Rate Picks Up in May

In May 2025, Slovakia experienced a rise in its annual inflation rate to 4.1%, climbing from an earlier four-month low of 3.7% in April, aligning with market forecasts. This increase was influenced by the escalation of prices in several essential sectors. There were notable increases in the categories of food and non-alcoholic beverages, which saw prices rise to 3.9% from 3.6% in April; housing and utilities, increasing to 2.8% from 2.5%; and furnishings, household equipment, and routine household maintenance, which saw an increase to 3.5% from 2.8%. Additionally, prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco surged to 4.9% from the previous 3.2%, while health costs edged up to 2.0% from 1.9%. The recreation and culture sector experienced a rise to 5.0% from 4.7%, and miscellaneous goods and services jumped to 6.5% from 5.9%. In the transport sector, prices made a turnaround, increasing by 0.1% compared to a previous decline of 1.6%. Conversely, a slight reduction in inflation was observed in clothing and footwear, which decreased to 3.4% from 3.6%, while prices in communication and education remained stable at 6.1% and 10.2%, respectively. On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices rose by 0.5% in May, up from 0.1% in April.
