Belgium experienced a significant shift in its trade balance in April 2025, achieving a trade surplus of EUR 2,966.6 million. This marks a notable turnaround from the EUR 438.6 million deficit recorded in the same month the previous year. The change was driven by a 14.6% decrease in imports, which totaled EUR 37,215.1 million. This decrease was attributed to a 10.3% reduction in purchases from EU countries and a substantial 22.0% decline in purchases from countries outside the EU. On the export side, there was a 6.9% decline, resulting in exports totaling EUR 40,181.7 million. Specifically, sales to EU member states decreased by 4.5%, while exports to non-EU countries saw an 11.9% reduction.
