U.S. President Donald Trump is weighing the possibility of broadening travel restrictions to include citizens from an additional 36 countries, as indicated by a State Department cable acquired by Reuters. This initiative would build upon a previous executive directive that restricted entry from 12 countries, marking one of the most significant overhauls of visa policies in recent U.S. history. The internal document, endorsed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, provides the countries in question a 60-day timeframe to align with U.S. security and identity verification standards. Should these nations fail to meet these criteria, they may face either full or partial bans on entry. The countries currently under scrutiny include Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Egypt, Nigeria, Tanzania, Cambodia, Tonga, Saint Lucia, among others. The evaluation is based on factors such as the security of their passports, their cooperation with deportations, and the potential risks related to terrorism.
