In May 2025, Cape Verde experienced a slight reduction in its annual inflation rate, which decreased to 2.3% from the 2.5% recorded in April. This decline was largely due to a slowdown in the price increases for clothing and footwear, which grew by 9% compared to 9.2% in April, as well as for alcoholic beverages and tobacco, which rose by 5.6% down from 5.8%. Additionally, the inflation rate for food and non-alcoholic beverages decreased significantly, growing by only 1.4% compared to the 2.3% increase in the previous month. Conversely, there was an uptick in the prices for miscellaneous goods and services, which increased by 7.2%, up from 6.7% in April. Hotels, cafes, and restaurants saw prices rise by 6.2%, compared to the previous 5.9%, and transportation costs accelerated slightly to 0.8% from 0.7%. On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices remained stable in May, showing no change after a 0.4% increase in the preceding month.
