FTSE 100 Trades Lower on Tuesday

The FTSE 100 declined by over 0.5% on Tuesday, undoing the previous day's 0.3% rise as increasing geopolitical tensions negatively impacted market sentiment. Investor anxiety heightened following President Trump's request for residents to evacuate Tehran, intensifying fears of a deeper conflict between Israel and Iran. Trump also refuted claims that his early departure from the G7 summit was linked to ceasefire negotiations. On the trade front, Trump and UK Prime Minister Starmer agreed to reduce tariffs on UK car exports and certain US agricultural products, although critical relief on steel tariffs was postponed. In company news, Ashtead announced full-year results that met expectations but reduced its dividend due to a slowdown in US commercial construction. The company also revealed plans to move its primary listing to the US by 2025. Informa confirmed its growth targets for 2025, while Morgan Sindall improved its profit forecast, driven by strong performance in its Fit Out division. Legal & General maintained its medium-term targets and announced solid results for early 2025.
