In May 2025, Malta saw its annual inflation rate increase to 2.7%, a slight rise from 2.6% in April, reaching its highest level since March 2024. This uptick was primarily fueled by rising costs in food and non-alcoholic beverages, which climbed to 4.2% from 3.9% the previous month, along with miscellaneous goods and services, which increased to 4.3% from 3.7%. Additionally, the restaurant and hotel sectors experienced a price increase to 3.3%, up from 2.9%. Meanwhile, the costs for health and education remained steady at 3.0% and 5.6%, respectively. Conversely, there was a slight decline in price growth for transportation, which decreased to 5.6% from 5.7%, as well as for housing and utilities, down to 0.7% from 0.9%, and recreation and culture, which fell to 1.2% from 1.6%. On a month-to-month basis, the increase in consumer prices slowed to 1.7% in May, a decrease from the previous month's 3.2%.
