Lebanon Inflation Rate Rises to 3-Month High

The inflation rate in Lebanon saw an uptick to 14.4% in May 2025, compared to 13.0% in the month before. This represents the highest rate since February, largely due to an accelerated increase in prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages, which climbed to 21.4% from April's 20.9%. Housing and utilities experienced notable price growth, rising to 18.0% from 15.8%, while the recreation and culture sector saw its rates increase to 6.1% from 4.8%. Costs for furnishings, household equipment, and routine maintenance reversed their previous decline, jumping by 3.2% after an 8.4% fall in the previous period. However, there was a slowdown in inflation for clothing and footwear, which eased to 10.3% from 11.0%, and for restaurants and hotels, which decreased to 13.5% from 14.9%. On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices rose by 1.3%, following a 0.7% increase in April.
