Brazil Current Account Deficit Widens in May

Brazil's current account deficit expanded to $2.930 billion in May 2025, compared to $2.519 billion in the same period the previous year, surpassing predictions of a $2.8 billion deficit. The trade surplus for goods contracted to $6.6 billion from $7.5 billion year-on-year, as exports decreased by 0.3% to $30.3 billion. Conversely, imports of goods saw an increase of 3.5%, reaching $23.7 billion. On the services front, the deficit shrank slightly to $4.7 billion from $4.76 billion. Similarly, the primary income deficit reduced to $5.2 billion from $5.4 billion. In contrast, the secondary income surplus grew, amounting to $596 million, up from $323 million.
