In May 2025, Mexico experienced a slight uptick in its unemployment rate, reaching 2.7%, up from 2.6% in the same month the previous year. The number of unemployed individuals rose by 83,000 to a total of 1.7 million. Among those without jobs, 42.6% had been unemployed for a month or less, while 32.2% had been out of work for one to three months. The number of unemployed women increased from 632,000 to 715,000, whereas the figure for men remained close to one million. The unemployment rate for women climbed to 2.8% compared to 2.7% for men, with the female rate going up by 0.3 percentage points year-on-year. The labor force expanded to 61.7 million, reflecting a participation rate of 59.5%, which is an increase of 237,000 individuals. Employment grew by 154,000, reaching a total of 60.0 million, thereby encompassing 97.3% of the labor force.
