In May 2025, Chile experienced a 4.6% annual increase in industrial production, up from a 3.8% rise in April, marking the most significant growth since December 2024. This upturn was notably propelled by a robust 9.8% growth in the mining sector, slightly down from 10.1% in April, primarily due to a 10.1% rise in the extraction of metallic minerals. The manufacturing industry also contributed positively with a 2.9% increase, recovering from stagnant growth in April, particularly highlighted by a substantial 16.4% increase in the production of paper and related goods. Conversely, public services experienced a further decline at -3.9%, compared to -1.0% previously, largely due to a 3.5% decrease in electricity generation, which affected two of its three main activities. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial production increased by 0.7% in May, following a 0.5% rise in April.
