South Korea Trade Surplus Largest in A Year

South Korea experienced a marked increase in its trade surplus, reaching USD 9.08 billion in June 2025, compared to USD 7.99 billion in June of the previous year. This surpassed market expectations, which had anticipated a surplus of USD 8.4 billion, according to preliminary data. This figure represents the largest trade surplus since June 2024, driven by exports outpacing imports. Exports saw a 4.3% year-on-year increase, slightly below the anticipated 4.7% rise, but an improvement from the 1.3% decline observed in the previous month. Conversely, imports rose by 3.3% in June, bouncing back from a 5.3% decrease in May, although this was less than the projected 6.9% growth.
