Retail sales in Portugal experienced a notable rise of 4.8% in May 2025 compared to the same month the previous year. This follows a positively revised growth of 3% recorded in April. The increase was driven by a 4.7% climb in non-food product sales, a significant improvement from the 0.8% rise seen in April. Meanwhile, sales of food, drinks, and tobacco saw a 5% increase, although this was slightly down from the 6.4% surge observed in the prior month. On a month-to-month basis, retail sales leaped by 2.2%, marking the most substantial growth since February 2022, after an upward revision of 0.7% in April.
